The business world keeps evolving, and companies need to be able to adapt to those changes if they don’t want to be left behind. In the cover story for this issue, “Trending in 2020: Accessibility, Balance, and Adaptability,” Cecile Alper-Leroux describes what she sees as the biggest challenges facing companies this year. “In order to survive and thrive in the coming years,” she writes, “companies will need to tap into new and underutilized workforce segments and empower them in uniquely humanistic ways.”

Josh Wright (“Understanding Labor Mobility”) argues that companies that want to improve their ability to find and hire top talent need “to deepen their understanding of one of the key drivers of recruitment, retention, and turnover: labor mobility,” particularly concerning out-of-town applicants.

Writing about how more and more companies are embracing a culture of inclusion, Brittany Harris observes, “Although a carefully crafted vision or values statement that affirms inclusion looks good on paper, truly realizing and activating a culture in which all employees can show up and be their best, authentic, and ‘whole selves’ takes work.” In “Inclusion Doesn’t Just Happen—It Takes Work,” Harris offers suggestions for how organizations can evaluate whether they truly are meeting their goals for inclusion.

Pamela DeLoatch also discusses the value of inclusion in the workplace. In “The Secret to Improving Cross-Functional Collaboration,” she explains that when companies have “diverse and inclusive teams working collaboratively and cross-functionally,” they see more innovation and creativity, and business outcomes that are generally stronger across the board.

Like it or not, change is coming. So organizations need to pay attention to what’s going on around them and start thinking about where they want to go—and how they want to get there. Is your organization ready to start having
these conversations? If so, give us a call!
